Locked Myself Out Of My Bathroom

Locked Myself Out Of My Bathroom

Corsham, England

February 18, 2020 4:46am CST

I was bringing in my garbage bin earlier and forgot that if I don't wedge the back gate open it will close and lock itself. I had it made to protect my dogs so that no one could come round the back and steal them as we had a spate of people taking them to use as bait in dogfighting. Normally I have a spare set of doorkeys hidden outside so that if I do lock myself out I can get in but I used them yesterday and left them in the house. so no phone and no doorkeys! Luckily I have a very good neighbour who offered to climb over the back fence into my garden which is covered in brambles and open the back gate for me so crisis over. I was a bit cold but so grateful to her. I must get her something nice to say thank you.

@Hannihar I am going to give her something nice to say thank you. Not sure what yet,

The present you're going to give her will be cheaper than calling a lock service company! :-) You can leave an ersatz key at your neighbour's for future calamities.

I have a secret hiding place but I used them yesterday and forgot to put them back. My neighbour works so it was only luck that she was in today.

Ouch, that is embarrassing waheehee. Good thing that it was just the gate and not the front door.

I can usually get back in through using the spare keys to the front door but they were locked in the house because I used them yesterday so I was stuck!

@sprite1950 seriously, that can happen to anyone. Sometimes we can lose our presence of mind. I hope it wouldn't happen to us.

@Alexandoy Yes it will make me more careful now. The worst bit was I had no coat and I was cold.

Luckily your neighbour helped you . These automatic gates can be sometimes dangerous

• Corsham, England

18 Feb 20

It's not a dangerous gate but it has a latch on the inside and if it closes it can't be opened from the outside.

@sprite1950 this is good..at least it has a option. Many gates don't have it

@amitkokiladitya My partner made it for me as I wanted to stop people getting round the back of my house.

I've done that, too. My neighbor let me use his house phone to tell my husband, then drove me to his office at the university. I ran in, got the key, and he drove me home. Good neighbors are hard to come by.

You were lucky that your neighbour was home. We have house keys hidden outside the house too.

18 Feb 20

I put them back as soon as I got in so it can't happen again and I think I will find a way to tie the back gate open when I want to leave it open.

My children once locked themselves out of the house when I was out doing grocery shopping. Luckily, I wasn't long and I came home with them sitting outside the house.

Maybe you need to hide two sets of keys

• Corsham, England

18 Feb 20

I very rarely use the spare keys but for some reason I went out to the car yesterday and locked the front door behind me without taking my usual keys. The first thing I did when I got in was put them back in their secret place

This happens and I am glad you did not need to call a locksmith. My father used to close the keys of the car inside the car.

• Corsham, England

18 Feb 20

Some cars lock themselves so if you leave the keys inside you cannot get in. I was so grateful to my neighbour as I was beginning to worry and it was cold. I was thankful I didn't leave anything on the cooker.

@sprite1950 I am glad she could climb the fence, I would have also called my neighbor and asked him to climb from the backyard, at the border of our two gardens.

@LadyDuck It was covered in prickly brambles. I said I should do it but she insisted that she would do it. She probably thought I was too old

What a nice neighbor you have, to jump in and help you like that! I hope you find a nice way to thank her! I locked myself out of my house once, and I ended up breaking a window to get inside. I've been super careful since then not to let it happen again.

Yes she is nice and I help her out too. Once I took her to the hospital as she was in pain and she doesn't drive. I think she was glad she could help me and return the favour. We fell out big time over the kids once. She has a 17 year old daughter who used to hang about with Teagan even though she was so much older. She would manipulate her and I didn't like it. We made it up but there was a lot of bad feeling for a few months.

@sprite1950 That tends to happen from time to time with neighbors and friends. The important thing is that you two mended your differences and are on good terms again.

19 Feb 20

@moffittjc I don't think men fall out with each other as much as women do and that seems to be right from the word go when we are at school. If I remember my son didn't fall out with his friends although my daughter often came home in tears because she had fallen out with her bestie.
